Draft order

The draft order was determined on 29 April 2013 following the completion of the regular season NHL Season 2012/ 13 by the draft lottery. The 14 teams took part, who do not qualify for the play- offs this season; or their right to vote holders. The winner of the lottery before it moved on draft position 1, all other teams move to the rear. Thus, each participating in the draw team had the chance to get the first option. This change was introduced with the new collective bargaining agreement, which was ratified during the NHL lockout in 2012/13. Previously, the winner of the lottery could only ascend a maximum of four positions. The weighting, however, remains, so the worst team of the season still has a 25 % chance of winning the lottery, while the best team in the lottery only has a chance of 0.5%.

The Colorado Avalanche won the lottery and moved thus to a place from second to first place in the draft order on. Thus they secured for the first time the First Overall Draft Pick. The Florida Panthers, the worst team in the regular season, slipped by from first to second place in the draft order.

The draft sequence of the 16 play-off participants is established after the Stanley Cup final. The Stanley Cup winner is set to position 30, the final opponent at position 29. At positions 27 and 28 excreted in the Conference Finals teams will be sorted. The remaining play-off teams will be placed in the regular season based on their table stand. The rule is that the team is in position 15 with the fewest points table. The draft order is valid for all rounds of the Entry Draft; the teams can thereby acquire voting rights on transfers of other teams as well as own dispose to other teams.
