2013 Porsche Supercup season

The Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup in 2013 was the 21st season of the Porsche Supercup. It included nine races. The season began on May 12 in Barcelona and ended on 3 November in Abu Dhabi. Until then leader of the general standings, Sean Edwards, died two and a half weeks before the season finale, on 15 October, at private testing as a driver coach on the Queensland Raceway. Nicki Thiim was first masterpiece in this series.

Race Reports

1st run: Barcelona ( Spain)

The 21st season of the Porsche Supercup began in Barcelona. Already in qualifying, a close power density apparent. 21 of 25 drivers were within one and a half seconds. Sean Edwards walked away from the start in the lead and won the first race of 2013. Behind fought a chasing group with Cuba Giermaziak, Michael Christensen and Michael Ammer Müller for the podium. Giermaziak came to overtake on the last lap of the racing line from when trying Ammermüller. Nicki Thiim and Ammer Müller took second and third place. Guest driver Sébastien Loeb finished eleventh.

2nd run: Monte Carlo ( Monaco)

Sean Edwards also launched in Monte Carlo from the pole position and won the race on the challenging street circuit. Towards the end of the race, the courts pushed behind back together and fought for second place Giermaziak and Ammer Müller. The duel went in favor of Ammermüller. The guest driver from the rally scene Sébastien Ogier and Sébastien Loeb occupied the 16th and 13th place.

3rd Round: Silverstone (Great Britain)

Nicki team won in Silververstone his first win, he started from the pole position. After a few laps he had moved out a lead. At the start of Michael Ammer Müller was able to make three places well. In the seventh round, he went past Christensen and finished second. After Ammermüller in Barcelona and Monaco were each third, he is the only driver who drove in all races on the podium. In the championship, he was just four points behind leader Sean Edwards, who finished fourth.

4th round: Nürburgring ( Germany )

Nicki Thiim and Kévin Estre drove for the Attempto Racing Team second and third place, a home race. At the start Estre defended the second place and Thiim went from fourth place to third place. Michael Christensen won the race from the pole position and Sean Edwards finished fourth. Nicki Thiim at this time was four points behind Edwards in 2nd place in the championship.

5th round: Mogyoród (Hungary )

With the Porsche 911 GT3 Cup and 460 hp Sean Edwards sat for the third time on top of the podium. Edwards extended his lead in the championship by 16 points from as the nearest rival Nicki Thiim in eighth place and Michael Ammer Muller came on the 14th place finish.

6th round: Spa -Francorchamps ( Belgium)

Cuba Giermaziak was the fastest in qualifying and started from the foremost starting place, just 0.203 seconds back title contender Sean Edwards. Only in the 11 and final round, the race decided on the demanding circuit in the Ardennes. Everything looked initially like a sure win out for Giermaziak, this had to be Edward's bow due to a technical defect. Edwards finished second ahead of Michael Christensen. Won the race, Klaus Bachler, his first victory in the Porsche Supercup at all.

7th round: Monza (Italy )

Nicki Thiim remained after Monza toughest opponent of Sean Edwards in the fight for the championship title. With the win from the pole position and fifth place of Edwards was clear that the championship will be decided in the final two races in Abu Dhabi will fall. Michael Ammer Müller finished second and Kévin Estre landed after a good race from grid position eight, in third place.

Round 8: Abu Dhabi ( United Arab Emirates)

Prior to the final rounds of the 2013 Championship leader Sean Edwards suffered a fatal accident at private test drives at the Queensland Raceway. Earl Bamber ( champion of the Porsche Carrera Cup Asia 2013) led until the last lap, but due to a driving error could still overtake him and win the first final run Nicki Thiim. Thiim thus assumed the lead in the Championship, the second final run he would be a tenth place for the champion's rich.

Round 9: Abu Dhabi ( United Arab Emirates)

In the final run to Nicki Thiim was in top form and won from pole position ahead of his teammate Kévin Estre. His title devoted Thiim the late Sean Edwards.
