Defending champion Roger Federer was, who was eliminated in the second round against Serhiy Stachowskyj. The winner was Andy Murray, who defeated the world number one Novak Djokovic in the final. Murray is the first British Wimbledon champion in men's singles since 1936, as Fred Perry won the tournament.
