Application

Until 1 December 2006, in addition to Moscow and Barcelona in Spain, Brisbane had advertised in Australia and Gothenburg in Sweden to host the world championships. Gothenburg withdrew his candidacy due to lack of financial support from the Swedish government in the same month back. The World Association of Athletics Federations ( IAAF) announced during its general meeting on 27 March 2007 in Mombasa, that Moscow had won the election for the organization of the World Championships 2013. This decision was criticized during the event repeats of some Western television commentators, athletes and newspapers since the stadium was reportedly visited only sparse. Even during the 100-meter finals with Usain Bolt, many seats remained vacant. This was justified by the lack of interest of the Russians in athletics compared to, for example, football. Contrary to these media messages achieved the IAAF World Championships loud overall " excellent attendance ", surpassing the previous record at the World Athletics Championships in Daegu in 2011.
