2014 European Men's Handball Championship qualification

Mode

At the European Championship in 2014 take part in 16 national teams. Of the 39 registered teams of the hosts and defending champions Denmark is directly qualified. The other 38 nations have to qualify in two group stages of the tournament.

According to the latest ranking of the EHF Men's national teams, a list was formed. From this the last 16 teams first had in the first qualifying round; the best 22 teams were set immediately for the 2nd qualifying round.

First qualifying round

Mode

These 16 teams were divided by lot into four groups of four teams each. For the second qualifying round qualified six teams: the group winners and the two best-placed runners-up.

From 8 to 10 June 2012 groups were pitted in a simple round-robin tournament.

Group A

All games were held in Nicosia in Cyprus. The team of Ukraine took as group winners in the second qualifying round.

Group B

All games were held in Bari (Italy). The group winners Switzerland moved into the second qualifying round.

Group C

All games were held in Rishon Lezion (Israel). Romania moved as group winners in the second qualifying round. As one of the two best runners- Israel reached the next round.

Group D

All games were held in Mersin (Turkey). Turkey, the team moved as group winners in the second qualifying round. As one of the two best runners-up also came Latvia to the next round.

Second qualifying round

Mode

It was attended by six qualified teams from the first round. Added to this were the 22 teams that were set directly for the second qualifying round.

These 28 teams were distributed by lottery to 7 groups of 4 teams each. From 31 October 2012 to 16 June 2013, the matches will be played in group mode with return game.

For the European Handball Championship 2014, qualifying the group winners and runners-up as well as the best group third parties. For the determination of the best third the results be counted against the group winners and runners.

Group 1

The teams of Spain and Macedonia qualified as group winners and runner-up for the European Handball Championship 2014

Group 2

The teams of the Czech Republic and Montenegro qualified as group winners and runner-up for the European Handball Championship 2014

Group 3

The teams of France and Norway qualified as group winners and runner-up for the European Handball Championship 2014

Group 4

The teams of Croatia and Hungary have qualified as group winners and runner-up for the European Handball Championship 2014

Group 5

The teams of Poland and Sweden have qualified as group winners and runner-up for the European Handball Championship 2014

Group 6

The Islands and Belarus teams qualified as group winners and runner-up for the European Handball Championship 2014

Group 7

The teams of Serbia, Austria and Russia qualified as group winners, runners- best third in the group and for the European Handball Championship 2014

Ranking the group third

In the sequence of the seven group Third, to place the 15th and last qualifying spot, but the results have been considered against the respective two best placed teams of the groups. At the end here sat the Russian team as the best third in the group just before the team from Germany by.
