2014 Summer Youth Olympics

The Second Summer Youth Olympic Games will be held from 16 to 28 August 2014 in Nanjing ( China). As a central venue, the Nanjing Olympic Sports Center Stadium is provided.

To host the event at first competed three cities: Guadalajara ( Mexico), Nanjing (China) and Poznan ( Poland). On 22 January 2010 Guadalajara withdrew his application. The members of the International Olympic Committee ( IOC) decided on 10 February 2010 in Vancouver during its 122nd session with 47:42 votes for the Chinese application.

Protest movement

In order to create the infrastructure for the Youth Olympic Games 2014, big plans are executed in Nanjing and heavy load on the environment. Beginning of March 2011 were felling trees of more than 70 years to make way for the Summer Youth Olympic Games free. This triggered violent agitations on the internet and a protest movement on March 19, which was soon banned by the police.
