2015 European Games

The European Games 2015 ( 1st European Games ) will be held from 12 to 28 June 2015, Baku, Azerbaijan. Organizer of the first contest in this game is the European Olympic Committee.

Baku was the only candidate to host the games and was elected by 38 votes to 8. Azerbaijan failed previously with its applications for the Olympic Games in 2016 and 2020 and for the Paralympics for the respective years. Curiously, thus held the first European Games on Asian soil.

A total of 15 Olympic and already two non-Olympic competitions are held. The European Olympic Committees expect up to 7,000 athletes in Baku.

Until 2014, 18 sports associations had registered to participate in the European games. There are planned competitions in 223 different disciplines.

Comparable multi-sport events have been around for some time in other parts of the world such as the Asian Games (since 1951), the Ozeanienspiele, the East Asian Games (since 1993) or the Pan-American Games (since 1951).
