( 2144 ) Marietta is one of the main asteroid belt, which on 18 January 1975 by the Russian astronomer Lyudmila Ivanovna Chernykh at the Crimean Observatory ( IAU code 095) was discovered in Nautschnyj.

The asteroid was named after the Soviet writer and philologist Marietta Sergejewna Shaginyan - named (1888, 1968). The native Armenian was also a member of the Armenian Academy of Sciences.
