( 21656 ) Knuth is an asteroid of the main belt, which was discovered on 9 August 1999 in the Czech Republic by Czech astronomers Petr Pravec and his Slovak colleague Peter Kušnirák at the observatory Ondřejov (IAU code 557 ).

The asteroid is named after the American professor of computer science Donald E. Knuth ( b. 1938 ) named, who wrote the standard work The Art of Computer Programming and created the TeX typesetting system from 1977.
