(21662) Benigni

( 21662 ) Benigni is a main belt asteroid of the middle, the Lucia Stroncone Observatory (IAU code 589 ) was discovered at Terni in Umbria on 1 September 1999 at the Italian Santa. Unconfirmed sightings of the asteroid it had previously already given on 7 January 1998 (1998 FB119 ) under the LONEOS project of the Lowell Observatory in Arizona.

The asteroid belongs to the Eunomia family, one named after (15 ) Eunomia group, which includes probably five percent of the asteroids of the main belt. The timeless ( nichtoskulierenden ) orbital elements of ( 21662 ) Benigni are almost identical to those of the smaller, if we start from the absolute brightness of 15.1 compared to 13.9, asteroid ( 134706 ) 1999 XK202.

( 21662 ) Benigni was named after the Italian actor and director Roberto Benigni on 7 January 2004. On May 23, 2005, an asteroid of the middle main belt was also claimed Benigni's wife Nicoletta Braschi named: ( 31605 ) Braschi.
