21st Berlin International Film Festival

The International Film Festival Berlin 1971 took place until July 6, 1971 by June 25th.

After the scandal was the Berlinale 1970, when the entire jury or the jury to President George Stevens in protest and disagreement over the film k resigned by Michael Verhoeven, was the Berlinale 1971 in the sign of reform. The scandal was also the birth of the International Forum of New Cinema. Forum founder Ulrich Gregor took over the festival 's director was an equal footing with Alfred Bauer. Gregor was now on the progressive young film a podium, which helped in addition to competition young filmmakers to international attention.

Wolf Donner saw in his gleanings in the period from July 9, 1971 in the clean separation of art and commerce (Forum and competition ), although a rotten compromise, however, was that the 21st Berlin International Film Festival would have been a complete flop without forum. The movies of the social criticism of the rebellion, the polemics, the aggression and agitation Be Forgotten: The whole world produce love- stories wholesale and detail, banal triangle stories and trivia from the poetry album, inflated to gefühligen tremendously bombastic and arty generic melodramas. The soft shaft had broken out, a cinema of love and beauty, the new inwardness and the unconditional aestheticism. After the debacle last year, when the festival was canceled and its director, Dr. Bauer resigned, it was believed that this will really change anything. But the A- state of competition ( official international nominations and films not shown in public or at other festivals ), the international jury, prices and of course Dr. Bauer had remained. And the smooth, pleasant, insignificant " world premieres ," under which only the films of Delvaux, Bresson and perhaps by Pasolini ( Decameron ) are worth an argument, too. The official program this year is so questionable and absurd as a subsidized with tax money Exhibition of dime novels, boulevard theater or bedroom and sofa pictures would have been it.
