( 2223 ) Sarpedon is an asteroid from the group of Jupiter Trojans. Thus asteroids are called, which run on the path of Jupiter on the Lagrange points around the sun. ( 2223 ) Sarpedon was discovered on October 4, 1977 by Purple Mountain Observatory.

Was named the asteroid after Sarpedon, a Trojan soldier in the Trojan War.
