( 2244 ) Tesla is an asteroid in the main belt between Mars and Jupiter. It was discovered on 22 October 1952 by the Serbian astronomer Milorad B. Protić and dedicated to the famous inventor of Serbian origin in the U.S., Nikola Tesla.

Simonida has an eccentricity of 0.178. The inclination of the orbital plane to the reference plane is about 8 °. The asteroid was classified according to spectral analyzes of 1995 and 2002 as a C-type asteroid. Asteroids of this type are the most common types, with a share of 75%.

Tesla has a carbonaceous surface, its light reflectivity, albedo of only 0.05 explains.
