( 22644 ) Matejbel is an asteroid of the main belt, which by astronomers Petr Pravec and Ulrika Babiaková on the Czech observatory Ondřejov (IAU code 557 ) was discovered on 27 July 1998.

The asteroid is named after the Slovak historians, theologians and educators Matej Bel (1684-1749), who translated the Bible into Czech and Czech language and of Emperor Charles VI. was knighted and appointed historian. The University of Banská Bystrica Founded in 1992, bears his name.
