( 2340) Hathor is an asteroid from Aten type. This refers to a group of asteroids whose orbits cross mostly run inside the Earth's orbit and this from the inside. Its name comes from the sky goddess Hathor of Egyptian mythology.

Hathor was discovered on October 22, 1976 by Charles Kowal.

Hathor runs on an eccentric orbit between 0.4642 AU ( perihelion ) and 1.2236 AU ( aphelion ) in 283 days around the sun. The orbital eccentricity is 0.45 where the orbit is inclined 5.85 ° to the ecliptic.

Its size is estimated to be 0.3 km. The albedo is 0.2.
