Politics and World Affairs

Western Mediterranean

  • During the First Punic War, the Romans conquered the Carthaginian base Eryx in western Sicily. To keep the Carthaginians only Drepanum and Lilybaeum.
  • Carthaginian naval victory at Drepana on the Roman fleet under Publius Claudius Pulcher. After the defeat of Aulus Atilius Caiatinus is determined dictator, Publius Claudius Pulcher, however, is sentenced to pay a fine because he ignored an unfavorable omens before the battle. Since the Romans also again many ships lose by a storm, they will remain for the next seven years without a fleet.

  • Zhuangxiang, father of the future Emperor Qin Shi Huang is ruler in the state of Qin, who has in fact gained the supremacy in China. In the same year, Hui, last pretender to the powerless Zhou Dynasty defeated whose capital Luoyang had been already conquered 256 BC by Qin.
