Western Mediterranean

  • After the departure of Pyrrhus from Sicily is appointed in Syracuse Hieron II as military commander.
  • Battle of Beneventum between Pyrrhus and Rome. After this battle Pyrrhus must retire to Epirus. Taranto is thus fend for themselves against the Romans and takes peace negotiations. The site of the battle was called until then Maleventum and has now been renamed by the Romans in Beneventum. On the triumphal procession in Rome elephants are presented in the city for the first time.

Eastern Mediterranean

  • 275 BC: Eudamidas II becomes King of Sparta as the successor of Archidamus IV

  • Most of the inhabitants of the ancient city of Babylon will be settled in the near Seleucia.
  • 275 BC: Antiochus I makes his eldest son Seleucus to co-regent and regent of the eastern parts of the country.
