( 27736 ) Ekaterinburg is one of the main asteroid belt, which by the Belgian astronomer Eric Walter Elst at the La Silla Observatory ( IAU code 809 ) of the European Southern Observatory in Chile was discovered on 22 September 1990.

The asteroid is named after the 1723 and founded by the Empress Catherine I. ( 1684-1727 ) named the Russian city of Yekaterinburg.
