( 27789 ) Astrakhan is one of the main asteroid belt, which by the Belgian astronomer Eric Walter Elst at the La Silla Observatory ( IAU code 809 ) of the European Southern Observatory in Chile was discovered on 23 January 1993.

The asteroid was named after the Khanate of Astrakhan, suffered due to the collapse of the empire of the Golden Horde feudal state at the lower course of the river Volga.
