27th Genie Awards

The 27th Genie Awards were presented on 13 February 2007. In this important Canadian Film Award again dominated films from the French-speaking province of Quebec.

All five nominated directors come from there. In the major categories Best Film and Best Actor was only one of the five nominees from the English-speaking parts of Canada, namely Trailer Park Boys: The Movie and Colm Feore, both went home empty-handed. As best leading ladies, there were two non-French nominee, namely Sigourney Weaver for Snow Cake and Jodelle Ferland for Tideland, which were not successful.

With thirteen nominations of Hockey film Maurice Richard ( The Rocket ) was in the lead. The second favorite was the action comedy Bon Cop, Bad Cop by director Eric Canuel with eleven nominations. Eight times nominated in Kigali was A Sunday ( Un dimanche a Kigali ) by Robert Favreau, a love story during the genocide in Rwanda. The English-language films Tideland was nominated by Terry Gilliam six times. Julia Kwan's first feature film Eve and the Fire Horse also had six nominations.

A prize-winner for Best Film Bon Cop, Bad Cop was excellent. Winning the Golden Reel Awards was made because of financial success, otherwise the film won for Best Sound. The Hockey film Maurice Richard ( The Rocket ) was most often awarded namely nine times, including Charles Binamé for Best Director, Best Actor Roy Dupuis, Julie LeBreton as Best Actress and Best Supporting Actor Stephen McHattie. Carrie- Anne Moss was Best Supporting Actress for her performance in Snow Cake. The Claude Jutra Award was first divided in 2007.
