( 2800) Ovidius is an asteroid of the main belt, which was discovered on September 24, 1960 as part of the Palomar - Leiden survey by the Dutch research team Cornelis Johannes van Houten, Ingrid van Houten - Groeneveld and Tom Gehrels.

The name of the asteroid is derived from the Roman poet Ovid.
