Western Mediterranean

  • Battle of Aquilonia: The Third Samnitenkrieg defeat the Romans under Lucius Papirius cursor the Samnites on the road from Campania to Taranto. Further north succeeds the Roman general Carvilius inter alia taking Cominium.
  • The Faliscans rise up against the Romans and the Etruscans to close; both are defeated by Carvilius.
  • Conquest of the Samnite cities Velia, Palumbinum, Herculaneum and Saepinum by the Romans.
  • The consul Lucius Papirius cursor inaugurated in Rome the temple dedicated to Quirinus. Here also the first sundial in Rome was built.
  • 293 BC: plague in Rome, which then allows the settlement of Greek doctors in the city. On the Tiber Island to the healing god Asclepius temple is built.

Eastern Mediterranean

  • Demetrius I Poliorketes, king of Macedonia and the ruler of Athens, gaining dominion over Thessaly and the Boeotians. On incitement of the Spartan king Cleonymus the Thebans against Demetrius, but who manages to crush the rebellion charge.
  • Demetrius I founded named after him Dimitrias at today's Volos.

  • At the time of the Warring States, the Chinese Qin State conquers in the battle of YiQue a coalition of Wei and Han.
