( 2987 ) Sarabhai is one of the main asteroid belt, which was discovered on September 24, 1960 as part of the Palomar - Leiden survey by the Dutch research team Cornelis Johannes van Houten, Ingrid van Houten - Groeneveld and Tom Gehrels.

Was named the asteroid in honor of the Indian scientist Vikram Ambalal Sarabhai who initiated inter alia, the public satellite television in India.
