2GB

2GB is a commercial Australian radio station in Sydney, it transmits on 873 kHz. The Key products include talk shows and so it is today (2007) the most popular and influential radio stations in the Sydney area. 2GB is part of the company Macquarie Radio Network, which is majority- owned by John Singleton.

The name

The term " 2GB " ( spoken in English toGB mutatis mutandis fürGB ) stand for the Italian philosopher Giordano Bruno, whose works were highly appreciated by many Theosophists. Annie Besant, the then President of the Adyar -TG, claimed to have been in a previous incarnation Giordano Bruno and Leadbeater, a close friend of Besant, therefore, used the term " 2GB " as a hidden tribute to his friend. Later, the ownership, the name was kept changed. The station no longer has anything to do with Theosophy, but exclusively pursues commercial interests.

History

2GB was founded in 1926 by Theosophist Charles Webster Leadbeater. Operator was on August 23, 1926, launched the Theosophical Broadcasting Station Pty. Ltd.. , At this Theosophists held 52% of shares, first Director General ( Chairman ), George Arundale, Managing Director ( appointed manager ) was Alfred Edward Bennett. The station served the Theosophical Society Adyar ( Adyar -TG) and the Liberal Catholic Church in Australia as an effective tool to spread their ideology. Leadbeater so that was the first Theosophist and one of the first members of a religious community, who used the medium of radio as a radio preacher.

1936 2GB merged with the stations 2UE, Bennett was Director General of the newly formed umbrella organization Broadcasting Service Association Ltd.. On December 23, 1936, the name changed accordingly on Broadcasting Station 2GB. 1938 took over Sir Hugh Robert Denison ( 1865-1940 ), the Broadcasting Service Association and incorporated it, and thus the majority in its 2GB Macquarie Broadcasting Services Pty. Ltd.. one. This also ended the theosophical influence on the radio program.
