2M Television is the second public television channel of Morocco and first went on air on March 4, 1989.

History of the television

In 1988, the company SOREAD concluded a framework agreement with the Moroccan government, which allowed him to operate a terrestrial television channel on the Moroccan territory, this allowed the transmission starting in 1989. Initially the programs were still broadcast encrypted.

Shortly after the launch of the channel was very popular, but he was moving in a complex cultural environment and suffered from piracy and unfair competition. After five years of existence, he was no longer a channel with international standards as originally designed, but rather a transmitter with a regional focus, which was striving to become even more clearly distinguished by its differences and peculiarities of other transmitters.

Takeover by the State

Seven years after inception, attracted the major shareholders SOREAD and ONA who were in financial difficulty, from the operational responsibility, whereupon the channel was taken over by the Moroccan state as majority shareholder with 68%.

Today

Following the extension of the coverage area to the whole Moroccan territory in the late 1990s 2M sparked a real boom in the Moroccan media landscape and is now one of the most viewed North African stations.

The headquarters are located in Casablanca (Morocco ), in the industrial area of ​​Ain Sebaa.
