( 30566 ) Stokes is an asteroid of the main belt, which was discovered on 29 July 2001 by the Italian-American astronomer Paul G. Comba at Prescott Observatory (IAU code 684) in Arizona.

The asteroid was named after the Irish mathematician and physicist George Gabriel Stokes (1819-1903), the theory of the absorption of light ( see Stokes shift ) formulated and is the namesake of a variety of equations.
