( 3061 ) Cook is an asteroid of the main belt, which was discovered on 21 October 1982 by the American astronomer Edward LG Bowell at the Anderson Mesa Station (IAU code 688 ) of the Lowell Observatory in Coconino County.

The asteroid was named after the British navigator and explorer James Cook - named, of the charted and pushed forward on three trips into the Pacific Ocean numerous islands to the Antarctic Circle (1728, 1779 ).
