( 30698 ) Hippocoon is an asteroid from the group of Jupiter Trojans. Thus asteroids are called, which run on the path of Jupiter on the Lagrange points around the sun.

( 30698 ) Hippocoon was discovered on 16 October 1977 by the Dutch astronomer Cornelis Johannes van Houten, Ingrid van Houten - Groeneveld and Tom Gehrels at Palomar Observatory. He is associated with the Lagrangian point L5.

The asteroid is named after Hippocoon, the cousin of the Thracian king Rhesus, who fought in the Trojan War on the side of Troy.
