( 3098 ) van Sprang is one of the main asteroid belt, which was discovered on September 24, 1960 as part of the Palomar - Leiden survey by the Dutch research team Cornelis Johannes van Houten, Ingrid van Houten - Groeneveld and Tom Gehrels.

The name of the asteroid was chosen in honor of the Dutch Meteor specialists Bert van Sprang.
