( 3130 ) Hillary is an asteroid of the inner main belt, which by the Czech astronomer Antonín Mrkos on Kleť Observatory (IAU code 046) was discovered near Český Krumlov on December 20, 1981. Unconfirmed sightings of the asteroid, there had been before, for example, on 17 May 1980 (1980 KO1 ) at the Crimean Observatory in Nautschnyj.

( 3130 ) Hillary is part of the Nysa - group, named after (44 ) Nysa group of asteroids (also called Hertha family, according to (135 ) Hertha). While Mrkos reached as a member of the 3rd Soviet Antarctic expedition led by Yevgeny Tolstikov the South Pole, Hillary 's expedition together with Vivian Fuchs Head of the Commonwealth Trans - Antarctic.
