( 31338 ) Lippershey is an asteroid of the outer main belt, which by the Belgian astronomer Eric Walter Elst at the La Silla Observatory ( IAU code 809 ) of the ( ESO) was discovered in Chile on April 25, 1998 European Southern Observatory.
The asteroid was named after the German - Dutch spectacle maker and inventor Hans Lippershey (1570-1619), who developed in 1608 the Dutch telescope.
