( 31555 ) Wheeler is one of the main asteroid belt, which on 7 March 1999 of Swiss amateur astronomer Stefano Sposetti Osservatorio Astronomico di on Gnosca ( observatory code 143) was discovered in Gnosca in Canton Ticino.

The asteroid is named after the American physicist John Archibald Wheeler (1911-2008) named the so-called Quantengeometrodynamik developed as an extension of general relativity in the 1950s and 1960s, and coined the terms of the black holes and wormholes. The appointment was made on 19 February 2006.
