(33 ) Polyhymnia is an asteroid of the main belt, which was discovered on October 28, 1854 by Jean Chacornac.

It was named after celestial bodies Polyhymnia, the Muse of anthemic poetry, dance, mime and geometry.

Starting from the absolute magnitude of 8.55 and a typical silicate- rich asteroids albedo of about 0.18 can be derived for Polyhymnia an average diameter of about 65 kilometers. This value is very uncertain due to the fluctuation range of plausible albedo. Because of the small size Polyhymnias is also an irregular shape to be expected, as the self-gravity to form an ellipsoid of revolution may be insufficient. A value of 18 hours and 36 minutes for a rotation around their own axis is derived by the brightness fluctuations due to the irregular shape due to rotation occurs.
