(3313) Mendel

( 3313 ) Mendel is an asteroid of the middle main belt, which on 19 February 1980 by the Czech astronomer Antonín Mrkos on Kleť Observatory (IAU code 046) was discovered in Český Krumlov. An unconfirmed sighting (1972 JB1 ) of the asteroid it had already given up in 1972 on May 11 Chilean Observatorio Cerro El Roble.

The asteroid belongs to the Eunomia family, one named after (15 ) Eunomia group, which includes probably five percent of the asteroids of the main belt. The timeless ( nichtoskulierenden ) orbital elements of ( 3313 ) Mendel are almost identical with those of seven smaller when one of the absolute brightness of 14.8, 15.0, 15.4, 15.8, 16.5, 16.0 and 17.1 compared with 12.1 runs out, asteroids: ( 76475 ) 2000 FQ58, ( 87150 ) 2000 NW18, ( 129889 ) 1999 TH25, ( 186243 ) 2001 XZ157, ( 245333 ) 2005 ED144, ( 279783 ) 1999 and TP266 ( 362724 ) 2011 UU250.

( 3313 ) Mendel is named after the Austrian monk Gregor Mendel and geneticists. The appointment was made by the International Astronomical Union ( IAU) has been named on 26 February 1994. Similarly, after Gregor Mendel in 1970, a lunar crater (crater Mendel ) and 1973 Mars Crater ( Mars crater Mendel ).
