( 34420 ) Peterpau is an asteroid of the outer main belt, which was discovered Observatory near Eloy, Arizona ( IAU code 919) by Canadian astronomer William Kwong Yu Yeung Hong Kong origin at the Desert Beaver on 23 September 2000. Unconfirmed sightings of the asteroid had already given 1998 (1998 HE62 ) at the Lincoln Laboratory Experimental Test System in Socorro, New Mexico within the project Lincoln Near Earth Asteroid Research (LINEAR ).

( 34420 ) Peterpau belongs to Hygiea family, a rather older group of asteroids, as has been suggested, the largest member of the asteroid (10 ) Hygiea is. After FORMING classification (Small Main -Belt Asteroid Spectroscopic Survey) were assumed in ( 34420 ) Peterpau of a dark surface with a spectroscopic investigation of Gianluca Masi, Sergio Foglia and Richard P. Binzel, it might be so, roughly speaking, to act a C- asteroids.

The timeless ( nichtoskulierenden ) orbital elements of ( 34420 ) Peterpau are almost identical with those of two smaller asteroids, assuming the absolute brightness of 15.8 and 15.6 compared to 13.6: ( 209480 ) 2004 HD30 and ( 223 445 ) 2003 SF309.

( 34420 ) Peterpau was named after the American Academy Award-winning Hong Kong- origin Peter Pau on 19 February 2006. Pau is a cameraman.
