The 34th Chess Olympiad 2000 was held from November 12, 2000 in Istanbul ( Turkey) from 28 October.

In the 34th Chess Olympiad 2000 in Istanbul 126 teams ( including Turkey B) played in the open group. Nicaragua, Mauritania, Djibouti and Nigeria did not travel to. The tournament was the Istanbul Convention & Exhibition Centre on the European side of Istanbul. Below is the final result is a listed as a complete progression table.

In the first three places, the teams came from Russia (38 board points), Germany (37 ) and Ukraine (35 ½).

Olympic champion Russia joined with the players Alexander Khalifman ( 4 ½ out of 9 ), Alexander Morozevich ( 7 ½ out of 10, Bronze ), Peter Svidler ( 4 ½ out of 8), Sergei Rublevsky (7 of 10), Konstantin Sakaev (7 of 9 ) and Alexander Grischuk ( 7 ½ out of 10) on.

The German men won the silver medal and played with Artur Yusupov ( 8 ½ points from 12 games ), Robert Hübner ( 6 ½ out of 11), Rustem Dautov ( 8 ½ out of 11 ), Christopher Lutz ( 5 ½ out of 9 ), Klaus Bischoff ( 4 ½ out of 7) and Thomas Luther ( 3 ½ out of 6).

Teams of women

China won the women (32 Brett Points) Georgia (31 ) and Russia ( 28.5 ).

China stepped in with the Xie Jun ( 8 ½ points from 11 games, Bronze ), Zhu Chen (9 out of 11, Gold Medal ), Xu Yuhua (7 of 10) and Wang Lei ( 7 ½ out of 10).

The German women were ranked number 8 and played with Ketino Kachiani - Gersinska, Elisabeth Pähtz, Anke Koglin and Bettina Trabert.

The Chess Olympiad is a team tournament. 14 rounds were played according to the Swiss system in Istanbul. In the Swiss system each evaluation teams are equal among themselves drawn. Each team (Team ) was per team fight use four players. The team competition four single points (board points) will be awarded, which are given in the following table of the 14 laps under the code of the opponent team. The code is a short code for the teams. The result of a team match, the team points (win = 2, draw = 1, loss = 0). In addition, the numbers of recovered, indecisive and lost battles are listed ( = -).
