34th Street (Manhattan)

The 34th Street is a major street in New York City borough of Manhattan.

Location

The 34th Street is located in Midtown Manhattan and crosses the island from west to east. She also connects the Lincoln Tunnel on the west side of Manhattan to the Queens - Midtown Tunnel connects to the east.

On the West Side 34th Street from the Hudson River crosses Eighth Avenue to the Hell's Kitchen neighborhood and between Fifth Avenue and Sixth Avenue Koreatown. At the same time it forms between Fifth and Ninth Avenue, the southern boundary of the Garment District and the southern boundary of Murray Hill between Madison Avenue and the East River.

Transport

The 34th Street has how many main streets in New York City 's bus lines ( M34 SBS and M34A SBS ) and four subway stops at the Eleventh Avenue ( 34th Street (IRT Flushing Line) - under construction, Eighth Avenue ( A, C, and E), Seventh Avenue (lines 1, 2 and 3) Herald Square ( B, D, F, M, N, Q, R and PATH) and Park Avenue (lines 4 and 6).

In April 2010, the New York City Department of Transportation proposed a bus rapid transit along the 34th Street. To ensure expel its own bus lanes, the road would have to be converted into a one-way street. You would then run west of Sixth Avenue toward the west and east of Fifth Avenue to the east. This would create a space for pedestrians between Sixth Avenue and Fifth Avenue.

A huge video screen and neon sign at the intersection of 34th Street and Broadway looks like a mini Times Square. There is the famous Macy's department store, which also plays a role in the Christmas movie Miracle on 34th Street and of itself takes, between Seventh Avenue and Broadway, the largest department store in the world to be ( "world 's large largest store" ). The annual Macy 's Thanksgiving Day Parade ends on 34th Street. Branches of large corporations can be found between the 8th and 5th Avenue.

East of Herald Square, the influence of the East Side, with its high-rise office buildings in the neighborhoods Kips Bay and Murray Hill is felt.

The Empire State Building is located on one of the rare rock plates of pure Manhattan schist on Fifth Avenue. It has long been the tallest building in New York City and dominated the skyline of the city.
