(35 ) Leukothea is an asteroid of the main asteroid belt, which was discovered on April 19, 1855 by Karl Theodor Robert Luther at the observatory Dusseldorf.

It was named after celestial bodies Leukothea, a sea goddess who rescued Odysseus from drowning.

Leukothea moves at a distance of 2.3211 ( perihelion ) to 3.6689 ( aphelion ) astronomical units in 5,184 years of the sun. The orbit is inclined 7.929 ° to the ecliptic, the orbital eccentricity is 0.225.

Starting from the absolute magnitude of 8.5 and a typical asteroid with dark carbonaceous surface albedo of 0.066 can be derived for Leukothea an average diameter of about 104 kilometers. This value is very uncertain due to the fluctuation range of plausible albedo. Because of the small size Leukotheas is also an irregular shape to be expected, as the self-gravity to form an ellipsoid of revolution may be insufficient. A value of 32 hours for a rotation around their own axis is derived by the brightness fluctuations due to the irregular shape due to rotation occurs.
