( 3554 ) Amun is an M- by Aten asteroid type. This refers to a group of asteroids whose orbits extend partially within the Earth's orbit and cross these from the inside. Amun approaches the sun to about 0.7 AE and even crosses hence the orbit of Venus.

Amun was discovered on March 4, 1986 by Carolyn S. Shoemaker and Eugene Shoemaker at Palomar.

The name of the asteroid is derived from the Egyptian deity Amun (also called Ammon ).
