38 Special (band)

(Also known as .38 Special or Thirty -Eight Special) 38 Special is an American rock band that was founded in 1975 in Jacksonville, Florida. Initially, the band played Southern rock along the lines of bands like Lynyrd Skynyrd and the Allman Brothers. From the late 1970s, 38 Special are oriented on the Mainstream Rock and AOR turned to. The albums of the late 1990s and 2000s are associated with the pop-rock. Their biggest commercial successes reached the group in the 1980s.

Band History

Founded in 1975 by singer Donnie 38 Special Van Zant, guitarist Jeff Carlisi and Don Barnes, bassist Ken Lyons and drummers Jack Grondin and Steve Brookins. After the label A & M Records had taken the group under contract, appeared in 1977, the debut album .38 Special, followed by the second album Special Delivery (1978). Although these two albums were given little encouragement, the group was able to gamble through numerous live performances a solid fan base. Before the recording of the third album, bassist Lyons was replaced by Larry Junstrom. At the same time 38 Special changed the musical direction from pure Southern rock back to the AOR and took the songwriting which enable third parties to complete. The title track of the 1979 album Rockin ' Into the Night, written by the members of Survivor Frankie Sullivan and Jim Peterik, the first chart success of the band with number 43 on the Billboard Hot 100 was the same time took over large parts of the singing guitarist Barnes. After Donnie Van Zant and Jeff Carlisli had participated as a live musician in the 1988 tour of Lynyrd Skynyrd, 38 Special, published the next studio album Rock & Roll Strategy. Although the band manages the ballad Second Chance another top ten hit in the U.S., the album itself marked the last commercial success of the band. 1991 when Don Barnes back in the band and the line-up was expanded to include drummer Scott Hoffman and keyboardist Bobby Capps. Meanwhile at Charisma under contract, appeared on 1991 album Bone Against Steel, which has received scant attention. The following year toured 38 Special, without publishing a new album. Only in 1997, appeared at CBH 's comeback album Resolution, which has seen no appreciable success.

Since the late 1990s, published 38 Special two studio albums and a live album, but have received little attention, and focused on live performances. In 2007 the band was the opening act for Frynds Lynyrd Skynyrd and Hank Williams Jr. ' s Rowdy tour. On September 27, 2008, she appeared with country singer Trace Adkins as part of a CMT Crossroads special. In 2009, 38 Special was the opening act for REO Speedwagon and Styx as part of the Can not Stop Rockin ' Tour. In 2010, the live album Live From Texas appeared. The Group acts as before.
