(3887) Gerstner

( 3887 ) Gerstner is one of the main belt asteroid, which was discovered on 22 August 1985 by Czech astronomer Antonín Mrkos on Kleť Observatory (IAU code 046) in southern Bohemia.

The asteroid was named after the Bohemian physicist and mathematician Franz Josef Gerstner (1756-1832), who as an astronomer at the Vienna Observatory in 1784 initially worked at the observatory Prague, before turning towards mathematics in 1787.

With the asteroid at the same time his son Franz Anton is honored by Gerstner (1796-1840), who from his father from 1807 designed rail link Budweis -Linz realized in the form of the horse railway Budweis -Linz 1824.
