3M11 Falanga

The AT-2 Swatter ( Russian designation 3M11 Falanga ) is a Soviet anti-tank guided missile of the first generation ( MCLOS = Manual Command to Line of Sight ).

History

The AT-2 was developed by the Development Office Nudelman OKB -16 as the successor to the AT-1 Snapper. She had towards this longer range and higher speed. In September 1964, the missile was shown for the first time Nikita Khrushchev and used as armament of the BRDM and BRDM -2. She was the first anti-tank guided missile of the Soviet Union, which could also be used from helicopters. For this purpose it was used in small numbers at the Mi- 4AW and then later on Mi- 8TW and Mi-24. She was later replaced by the AT -5 Spandrel and AT-6 Spiral.

  • AT- B swatter 2B, in which the range was increased to 3.5 kilometers 9M17
  • 9M17DB modified version of the Mi- 8TW
  • 9M17M Scorpio M MCLOS 9K8 ( Falanga -M) - off mass 29 kg, maximum range of 3.5 km. First shown in 1973 at the annual military parade in Moscow.
  • 9M17P - first SACLOS version.
  • 9M17MP - with an improved engine, maximum range of 4.0 km.
