3rd Chess Olympiad

The 3rd Chess Olympiad took place from 13 to 27 July 1930 in Hamburg. It was organized by the FIDE and consisted of a men's competition. In addition still various attractions were held to publicize chess.

Background

Germany, which had taken over the organization of the Chess Olympiad, chose the city of Hamburg as the venue where the Olympics was connected with the centenary of the Hamburg SK. Venue was the Logenhaus the Provinzialloge of Lower Saxony at the Moorweidenstraße.

This time 18 teams took part in the Olympics, who played in a round robin tournament against each other.

The tournament favorite Poland won in the cast Rubinstein, Tartakower, Przepiorka, Makarczyk and P. Frydman, before the Hungarian team with Maroczy, Takacs, Vajda, E. Steiner and Havasi.

The German team took third place in the cast Ahues, chamois, Carls, judges and Wagner.
