3rd Marine Division (United States)
The 3rd Marine Division ( 3rdMarDiv; 3rd Marine Division ) is a major unit of the U.S. Marine Corps and one of three currently active Marine infantry divisions of the U.S. armed forces. It is under the command of Major General Robert B. Neller and, together with the 1st Marine Aircraft Wing ( 1st Marine Air Wing - ) and the 3rd Marine Logistics Group (3rd Marine Logistics Group ) III. Marine Expeditionary Force, a bandage on corps level.
The headquarters of the Division is located on the Marine Corps Base Camp Smedley D. Butler, in Okinawa, Japan. The Division is one of the Marine Corps Forces, Pacific, forming the Marine component of the Regional Command U.S. Pacific Command.

History
The Division was established on 16 September 1942 during the Second World War and again demobilized on 28 December 1945. On January 7, 1952 during the Korean war she was reactivated and has since been continuously in service.

Primary mission of the 3rd Marine Division is conducting amphibious landing operations and similar military deployments on maritime and litioraler level.

The Division is made up of two infantry regiments, an artillery regiment, a reconnaissance battalion, an amphibious assault battalion and a battalion staff.
