41st National Hockey League All-Star Game

The 41st National Hockey League All-Star Game was held on January 21, 1990 in Pittsburgh. The match took place at the Civic Arena, the venue of the host Pittsburgh Penguins. The All-Stars of the Prince of Wales Conference beat the Campbell Conference clearly with 12:7. The game saw 17,503 spectators. Mario Lemieux of the Pittsburgh Penguins has been named the MVP.

Host

Actually, the Montreal Canadiens were provided as hosts for the 41st All- Star Game. However, because Quebec had set new standards with the Rendez -vous '87, they wanted to wait with its own implementation of the All-Star games. Instead, Pittsburgh was awarded the contract, which would have had to wait really until 1993.

New Releases

The league management led at the 41st edition a few crucial innovations. So the game was no longer as before, instead of on a Tuesday night, but on a Sunday afternoon so the whole country could follow the game live. Furthermore, we introduced a "Heroes of Hockey " game by former NHL players should compete against each other in two sections. The organizers also conducted a the All-Star Skills Competition, in which the NHL All-Stars competed against one another in order to compare their individual skills with each other can. In this game a number of All-Star records have been broken. It was the All- Star Game with the most goals in total ( 19), the most goals of a team (12) and most goals in a third ( 9).
