- 420 or 413: The tribe of Salian Franks exceeds the Rhine to the west.
- In Duisburg, created a Frankish royal court.
- 420: Augustine wrote his treatise De Civitate Dei (On the City of God ), in which he represents a two - kingdom doctrine in 22 books: The Church of God to be realized is the earthly state opposite; this explains Augustine among others, the use of capital punishment by the state authority to be legitimate.
