4,4 '- diaminodiphenyl methane is a chemical compound from the group of diphenylmethane derivatives. Technical diaminodiphenylmethane consists of a mixture of isomeric compounds (2,2 '- diaminodiphenylmethane, 2,4' -diaminodiphenylmethane ), and other amines.

Production and representation

4,4 '-diaminodiphenylmethane is prepared by a condensation reaction of formaldehyde with aniline in the presence of hydrochloric acid.

Use

4,4 '-diaminodiphenylmethane is used as an intermediate in the production of synthetic resins (curing agent for epoxy resins ), plastics, adhesives, dyes, and accelerators. The greatest part of the quantity produced (1993 about 400,000 tons per year ) while for the production of polyurethane is used ( by reaction with phosgene) in the production of 4,4 ' -diphenylmethane diisocyanate. The substance is not released from textiles or leather articles which may come a long time with the human skin directly in contact are (Appendix 1 of the Consumer Goods Ordinance ) after reductive cleavage of azo groups.

Safety
