( 4487 ) Pocahontas is an asteroid from Amor - type, which was discovered on October 17, 1987 by Carolyn S. Shoemaker at Palomar.

Is named the asteroid after the legendary figure Pocahontas, an Indian woman who should have occurred in eastern Virginia in the early 17th century as a mediator between the tribes of the Virginia Algonquian and the British colonists.
