( 458 ) Hercynia is an asteroid of the main belt, which was discovered on 21 September 1900 by the German astronomer Max Wolf and Arnold Schwassmann in Heidelberg.

The name of the asteroid is derived from the Latin name for the Herkynischen forest, the collective term for an ancient forest landscape in the territory of today's Germany.
