  • After the death of Hiero I., his brother Thrasybulus is tyrant of Syracuse. Because of his incompetence and cruelty but it will soon be overthrown. Syracuse receives a democracy modeled after Athens.
  • The Japigi conquer the Greek city of Tarentum in southern Italy. According to Aristotle this fall so many aristocrats that the democratic party take power and can change the form of government.
